Morley's Final Catalogue: Almost too common to localise. Records are from Sudbury (Ransom), common at Ipswich light, Playford, Aldeburgh, Monks Soham garden, Needham, Stowmarket, Bury. Homersfield, Bungay (Mn), Gorleston (D), who finds a splendid dark form.

Recent Suffolk Status: Common.

Life history: Single-brooded. Occasional records later in the summer in recent times. Melanic form occurs occasionally.

Identification: Unmistakeable.

Habitat: Woodlands, scrub, gardens.

Recorded in 52 (90%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1927.
Last Recorded in 2024.
